Our College

Elizabeth College is a co-educational senior secondary college for Years 11 and 12 with an enrolment of approximately 1000 students. The college promotes high academic standards and provides a balanced program of cultural, intellectual, social and sporting activities. Mature age, part-time, country, city and overseas students provide a rich social diversity to our campus.

Location

Elizabeth College is a city college and is located one kilometre from the centre of Hobart, Tasmania's capital city. This provides many advantages – ease of accessibility to museums, art galleries and libraries, and an efficient public transport system.

Facilities

Continuing development of the campus provides the latest facilities, which include welcoming classrooms across all subject areas, science and technology laboratories, library and staff and student common rooms. The modern gymnasium and weights room (Chuggy's Gym) cater for athletes and sports enthusiasts. The college has over 600 computers in addition wireless access available throughout the College. The facilities include a performing arts auditorium, dance and drama studios and music studios. State of the art catering facilities include domestic and commercial kitchens with restaurant.

Safe and secure learning environment

All teachers take a special interest in the students' progress. The supportive environment includes a pastoral care program, a program of social activities, student counsellors, college policeman and chaplain. The careers counsellor provides access to a wealth of information to assist in making career decisions.
Elizabeth College has a diverse and multicultural student population, represented by thirty five nationalities. The College has a long tradition of quality and excellence in its highly successful International and Exchange Programs. A full program of English as a Second Language courses is offered, from beginners to pre-tertiary. Local and international students can prepare for exciting futures in further education and career pathways in a safe, secure and supportive learning environment.

  • The college has a record of excelling in a variety of academic areas including English, Science, Maths, Economics, Debating, Public Speaking competitions and academic prizes.
  • Student Exchanges
  • These include student exchange visits with Hiroshima Inokuchi Senior High School in Japan and Quanzhou Foreign Language School in Fujian Province China. Many international exchange students study at the college.
    Enrichment Program
  • This provides over ninety co-curricular activities for students in a variety of sporting, community, cultural and personal interest areas.
  • Athlete Development Program
  • Athletes are extended in a variety of areas including soccer, basketball and volleyball.

Chaplaincy

After consultation with our school community, Elizabeth College has a chaplaincy service.  This is in conjunction with Scripture Union Tasmania as our provider.  This funding is provided by DEEWR through the NSCSWP program and the Local Chaplaincy Committee.
